Create a website icon

You may or may not have noticed that I have an icon next to my website address in your browser (it’s me looking silly if you’re wondering). Several people have asked me how I did this so I thought I’d post it here.

1. Create a standard windows icon 16×16. If you have to have 32×32 – that will work too (even though documentation says it won’t), but 16×16 is better since this is how Internet Explorer displays them by default. Basically, if you use a 32×32 icon, IE will have to scale them down, thereby losing resolution.
2.  Rename this icon to favicon.ico
3.  Copy favicon.ico to the root of your web site.

Poof, you’re done!
